Statewide Effort to Combat Indoor, Sedentary Childhood

Sept. 24 (XXCITYXX, Ohio) An effort being launched today across Ohio and including XXCITYXX seeks to combat today’s indoor, sedentary lifestyles with encouragement and resources for families to get back outdoors and PLAY.

Throughout Ohio and the United States, research has shown that today’s indoor, sedentary lifestyles are harming children. Meanwhile, unstructured play in nature has been shown to make kids happier, healthier and smarter.

Today’s events in cities across Ohio will serve to highlight simple, inexpensive solutions to such complex problems as childhood obesity, childhood depression, academic declines, attention disorder symptoms and more.

Governor Ted Strickland, simultaneously with XXYOUR MAYORXX and mayors from other major Ohio cities, will sign proclamations in support of The Ohio Children’s Outdoor Bill of Rights.

At the same time, the grassroots movement called “Leave No Child Inside,” which has organizations in many regions of Ohio including XXYOUR CITYXX, will present a report of the problem in Ohio, progress already being made, and suggestions for future work.

In addition, Leave No Child Inside will be launching an educational campaign to provide families and schools with the support they need to encourage outdoor exploration.
